Paradise Lost Book-IV describes the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve as lovers. The idyllic picture has ominous overtones. Satan, observing the happy couple, views them first with pity for their innocence, but soon feels only envy and succeeds in reaching Eve by an evil dream. In the process, a further degeneration of Satan takes place.
